Angel Moraes
Bombay Records

Like many New Yorkers, Moraes was introduced to dance music through Larry Levan and his legendary sets at the Paradise Garage. With Levan as musical mentor, Moraes began honing his skills as a DJ and generally putting himself out there in the N.Y. underground scene. After linking up with Victor Simonelli for a release on Eightball Records, Moraes was asked to show off his mixing skills at the notorious Sound Factory Bar, run by Jeffrey Rodman. It was with Rodman that Moraes would found the Hot n' Spycy label and the rest -- as they say -- is history.

Since his humble beginnings, Moraes has established himself as one of the world's leading club DJs. He blends uplifting vocal house with dark tracky instrumental house and deeply phased late-night house with masterly ease. Since his '93 debut release on Hot n' Spycy ("Release Yourself"), Moraes has licensed tracks to Tribal America, Strictly Rhythm, Subversive, Groovilicious, and Critical. "Heaven Knows" (released on FFRR/London), "Welcome To The Factory" (on his own label), and "I Like It" (on AM:PM) are all considered club classics. He has remixed the likes of k.d. lang, The Pet Shop Boys, Funky Green Dogs, and Black Box. In short -- Moraes has made it. The icing on the cake came with the opening of Stereo, his own Montreal-based club with a purpose built sound system designed by Moraes himself.

Angel Moraes In Stereo, recorded live at his venue and produced in conjunction with Montreal-based Bombay Records, showcases his mixing skills and features a few of his own tracks to boot. He opens his set with wind effects and moves swiftly into the vocal delights of "You Gave Me Love" by Kenny Bobien and "Be With You" by Junior Sanchez, featuring the glorious Dajae. He moves into hard and fast clubbing territory with tracks from DJ Spen and Active X Tracks Vol.6 (aka Chris Simmonds) and ends on a deep Basic Channel vibe with a cut from Miguel Graca and his own "To The Rhythm" released through Groovilicious. If you close your eyes when streaming this mix you can easily imagine yourself in the setting of a hot and sweaty New York club. This music is dangerous.
