Mole Listening Pearls
Ernst Wawra likes to experiment with different styles. As The Trigger Project (Wawra, DJ Coma, and Stevie B) he toys with tech-step, as Aeric (for Hamburg's most excellent Ladomat) he moulds micro house, and as Alphawezen (for Mole Listening Pearls) he weaves wonderfully erotic wind-down house and downtempo. L'apres-midi D'un Microphone (a play on Debussy's Prelude a L'apres-midi d'un Faune) is Wawra's debut album for Mole as Alphawezen. The album's vast range of styles and tempos includes abstract drum and bass ("Frost"), dub-driven house ("4043"), early Aphex-inspired minimal techno ("System 1"), and dope downtempo ("Maimouna"). Wawra cowrote "Gai Soleil," which features Daniel Petrovitsch on cello, with vocalist Asu Yalcindag.
